Roller Derby Skate Corp
was founded in 1936 in Litchfield, Illinois.
U.S.A. A production plant was established
to supply the U.S. market with various
types of footwear products. The primary
products produced at that time were high
top boots for both roller and ice skates.
Production of shoes continued in Litchfield,
Illinois until 1988. Over those years
products produced at that manufacturing
plant also included golf shoes, baseball
shoes and all purpose athletic shoes.
The entire production process included
the manufacturer of roller skate plates,
ice skate blades, wheels and all related
parts. A full assembly plant, production
could reach 35,000 pair of skates per
day.
Roller Derby Skate Corp
was the first company to introduce to
the market a sized, booted roller skate
for outdoor use. This was done in 1957.
Until that time, only adjustable steel
wheeled roller skates were available for
outdoor use. The first of the outdoor
models, named the Street King, remains
the largest selling roller skate of all
time. Over the years, over 65 million
pair were sold of the Street King model
alone.
In 1953, Roller Derby
Skate Corp opened its first California
office and assembly plant.
This facility has remained in California
since then. A second operational office
was opened in Atglen, Pennsylvania in
1971, which exists today. This gave Roller
Derby office, warehouse and shipping facilities
in 3 locations in the U.S., enabling the
company to serve the entire U.S. market.
The roller skate industry
has evolved over the years. Inline style
skates dominate the world market, and
Roller Derby is the second largest supplier
to the U.S. market. We have, over the
years, moved our production to first Taiwanese,
and now Chinese production facilities,
no longer producing skates in the U.S.
Our facilities remain as offices and warehouses.
Roller Derby Skate Corp
is a privately held, non public company.
Sales figures are not available to the
public. However, the company remains today
as a primary supplier to the roller skate
industry world wide.
Products produced today
include the branded Roller Derby inline
and quad roller skates. Specialty products
produced under the brand of Tour include
inline and ice hockey and related equipment,
and competitive speed skating boots and
products. Tour is a world wide distributed
brand in the inline hockey industry and
is the second leading supplier to the
U.S. market. Additionally, a wholly owned
subsidiary, California Advanced Sports,
produces popularly priced inline skate
products and skateboards. Further, through
acquisition, a divisional company named
360, Inc. products a full range of water
sport products including body boards,
surf boards and swim products.
Roller Derby Skate Corp
is a dedicated company to the skate industry.
Based wholly in the U.S., our business
is not a division of a larger conglomerate
of related companies, but a company comprising
of employees that have been in the skating
industry for their entire careers. Our
business is skating and we are dedicated
to it.
